Santomi Center BOX (Gallery) will be holding the Calligrapher HILOKI TANAKA Exhibition from Friday, June 29th to Sunday, July 21st 2019.
HILOKI TANAKA is a leading young calligrapher / artist who is based on a traditional calligraphy but also works in a wide range of styles from contemporary arts. Learned from Master Shoshu from 7 years old. Shoshu wrote the title character of TV program “Gunshi Kanbei” on NHK. HILOKI has firmly joined Shoshu’s mind that “the tradition always takes on new sensibility while being inherited” and has actively participated in various domestic and international exhibitions and group exhibitions. In particular, he won the first prize, Xi’an Beirin Director General’s Award at the 2nd Yan Zhenqing International Calligraphy Exhibition held in China (2010). It’s very hard to won the Grand Prix tittle even Chainise calligraphers.
In recent years, he has expanded the scope of his activities by writing for various events and companies such as Hanshin Tigers’s team slogan and Red Bull Air Race Chiba. Furthermore, there are various places of activity such as event collaboration with Kyoto Sanga F.C., media appearance, movie, live performance, store artwork, etc. In the exhibition at the Santomi Center this time, the new rain series “A letter of rain” and “sentences and quotations related to rain” are published for the first time. In addition, the representative work “抱擁（Houyou）” will be exhibited specially. First release the art work in China in 2007, and the response was very large in the traveling exhibition in Japan, but it is a work that HILOKI confidence has not released for the commandment.

■HILOKI TANAKA
Born in 1983.
Started calligraphy from 7 years old, learned from Master. Shoshu, who made the title character of NHK Taiga drama “Gunshi Kanbei”
Accepted university exams by calligraphy recommendation.
Graduated from Hanazono University Calligraphy Course in 2005.
Author activity started in earnest in 2007.
He develop original style ink, wide style from tradition to modern works.
In 2010, he won the first prize, Xi’an Beirin Director General’s Award, at the 2nd Yan Zhenqing International Calligraphy Exhibition held in China.
Many awards at international exhibitions. Develop various activities at domestic and international solo exhibitions and group exhibitions.
The Hanshin Tigers team slogan has been running for three consecutive years since 2016. “千葉” and “Chiba” for Red Bull Air Race Chiba. In addition, the collaboration works with Kyoto Sanga F.C., various media appearances, movies, live performances, store artworks, etc.
He presides for the drop meeting HILOKI calligraphy class in Kyoto, GoshoMInami (Nakagyo Ward), Shiga, Minami Kusatsu, Nagoya, Marunouchi.
